2020 Legislative Session Week 1 Recap with State Rep. Mike Caruso

The first week of the 2020 Legislative Session is now complete. It was a very busy week in Florida’s Capitol. Monday began with five of our appropriation projects unanimously passing their respective committees. Tuesday was the official first day of the 60 day Legislative Session. Governor DeSantis gave his State of the State address during our Joint Session with the Florida Senate where he brought up the importance of continued improvements for water quality, child welfare, our Veterans, and teachers. The rest of the week was filled with committee meetings, constituent meetings, and working on legislation.

The first week of Session always brings Palm Beach County to the Capitol for what is known as Palm Beach County Days. Traveling to Tallahassee is not easy and I truly appreciate when we have visitors from home. This year more than 300 elected Palm Beach County officials, community and business leaders, activists and students came to Tallahassee to advocate for the issues of importance to Palm Beach County and its municipalities. If you ever come to Tallahassee while I’m here, please know that my door is always open to you.

Week one in Tallahassee was a success. The 2020 Legislative Session started off on the right foot with my bill, HB 919 Property Tax Exemptions Used by Hospitals, being read for the first time. I am looking forward to working hard in the upcoming weeks to push through all of my legislation and fight for the residents of District 89.
